Don't you love how whenever a trend is revived it feels completely new again? It gives you a chance to see it from a fresh perspective, whether you are giving a vintage look a new update or challenging yourself to dream up something completely original. We designed our own take on this classic cut with Didion, which is the perfect pant for us to show you how to wear culottes.
We were delighted to see our friend Andi of Oui We Girl had shared her own take on styling culottes for spring, which is a casual collection of soft monochromatic neutrals perfect for easy spring days. Not to mention how much we love seeing our culottes paired with a favorite read... as each piece in our spring collection is inspired by an influential female author.
Not long after, we came across this image of Grace Kelly on Pinterest and can't get over her effortless way of accessorizing culottes with just a belt and an airy neck scarf... it's exactly what we mean when we say *laidback luxury*!
As you might have seen from these Didion photos included in our last lookbook, we love seeing culottes paired with a simple luxe top that's easily tucked into their high waist (which is so flattering, BTW). With its delicate shoulder ruffles and luxurious cotton silk, our Jane Blouse in Blush (also seen on Andi here) brings in just the right amount of detail. Frills... but no fuss!
How to Wear Culottes: Quick Tips
1. Know your measurements. The key to achieving the perfect culotte outfit is ensuring your pants are the perfect length for your height. A good, high-quality pair of luxury pants are almost always an investment, so make sure to purchase a product that you know can be altered or hemmed to your liking.
2. Choose a favorite color. A bold pant is one of our favorite ways to make a statement, but we love how versatile neutrals can be too! Here you just want to think about the tops you're most excited to wear with culottes, so you know what kind of combinations to seek out. Our Didion comes in three hues!
3. Find the right top. As mentioned, we love Jane because it's a super light, breathable top that's easy to tuck in without bunching. But another reason to choose a similar look is because the fitted top will balance out the airy wide legs. Too much on top AND bottom can look a little frumpy, so balance is key!
4. Accessorize with a few key accessories, like Grace Kelly's belt and tie or Andi's sunnies and hat. This helps you coordinate the outfit, whether it's matchy-matchy or full of contrast. Add a fun pair of statement earrings for an instantly polished look.5. What shoes to wear with culottes: From woven sandals to pretty pumps, our advice for choosing the right shoe follows the same guidelines as our tops: strike a balance and go for something lightweight and appropriate for the season.
